Design of a Dual-Function Cabin: Bio Sauna and Herbal Sauna
Hotel Materra is a new property nestled in the greenery of the Croatian countryside. For this reason, the design and construction of the wellness center focused on incorporating panoramic glass walls in all treatment cabins.
Our expert designers worked closely with the architects responsible for the overall design and with the hotel management to ensure the SPA environment aligns perfectly with the property’s concept. In particular, the Carmenta team designed and created cabins for both hot and cold treatments.
Several cabins were included in the construction of this wellness center. The first treatment is the traditional dry Finnish sauna, featuring very high temperatures (80–100°C) with almost zero humidity (3–6%). Thanks to the generous space and strategic stove placement, the sauna can also accommodate the Aufguss ritual. This ritual combines wellness with entertainment: the sauna master pours water or ice infused with balsamic essences onto the stove stones, skillfully directing the generated steam towards the sauna guests using a towel.
Another “soft heat” treatment included in this hotel wellness center project is the bio-sauna. This cabin allows guests to enjoy a treatment with a higher relative humidity (20–40%) and lower temperatures (40–60°C), providing an alternative sauna experience.
In this wellness center, the cabin is not limited to use as a bio-sauna. It also features a tray or brazier designed for aromatic and balsamic herbs. These herbs, misted by water from a stainless steel dispenser located above the stove, release their essences throughout the sauna. This type of treatment is called an Herbal Sauna.
